ELLIS BUILDING

PHOENIX, AZ

Continuing with an urban adaptive re-use approach to show that historic structures are an asset, streets can be enlivened, and that the balance between redevelopment and affordability can be maintained to create a project that is accessible to a wide range of users.

Our development honored the pedestrian, bicycle and mass transit experience as well as intelligently managed vehicular access and parking needs. A concept for a downtown Phoenix historic office building.  Our team suggested to expose the original, historic facade, and to add a shade canopy to the exterior, so that outdoor patios could open up the restaurant and retail space at ground level to the pedestrian user.

Multiple ideas to redevelop the building were tested from converting the building from City offices to affordable condo units with some co-working spaces including a potential urban grocer tenant on the ground floor, as well as some urban farm space.
